TARA - Thamkrabok Assistance and Recovery Advice
Basic Buddhist Principles
Imagine the Buddha sitting here

The TARA Detox approach to addiction can probably be best summed up as helping addicts to see "what is what".  That is to see and discern the four noble truths or saccas, and to contemplate the three characteristics of existence.

The Four Noble Truths or Sajjas are:

Dukkha sacca. The Truth of Suffering

Samudaya sacca.   The Truth of the Origin of Suffering

Nirodha  sacca.  The Truth of the Cessation of Suffering

Magga  sacca.  The Truth of the Path leading to the cessation of suffering

The Three characteristics of Existence are:

Anicca.  Everything is limited to a certain duration and, consequently, liable to disappear.   (Impermanence)

Dukkha.  Everything is unsatisfactory. There is nothing that can be relied upon, there is nothing that can bring true happiness.  (Suffering)

Anatta.  Everything is deprived of a self. There is no self-inherent entity, nothing that can be controlled.  (No Self)

"And what is the cause by which suffering (dukkha) comes into play?    Craving is the cause by which suffering (dukkha) comes into play".
