12 Week Mindfulness Based Detox & Mindfulness Based Recovery Programme

'Mindfulness' is sometimes described as a way of paying attention to life, a moment-to-moment awareness of yourself, your environment and those around you.  Although this Mindful Detox - Mindful Recovery programme is rooted in the ancient Buddhist practice of meditation, it is important to note that mindfulness and meditation can be learned and practiced by anyone, regardless of their religious or cultural background. It is possible to remain a committed Christian, Jew, Muslim or agnostic and still benefit from this programme.

The basis for the sponsored 12-week Mindful Detox - Mindful Recovery programme is:

• Sponsorship.
• Selection.
• Preparation.
• Outward travel to Thailand.
• Detox at Thamkrabok (minimum 15-days).
• Rehab at New Life Foundation (minimum 6-weeks).
• Return travel to UK.

SPONSORSHIP:
 

Whilst TARA Detox Organisation encourages and helps suitable addicts to make their own journey to Wat Thamkrabok, there are other addicts who are unable to travel to Thailand without financial help and supervision (usually due to the lack of personal resources).  The Mindful Detox - Mindful Recovery programme is intended to help such drug addicts to access the unique herbal detoxification process provided by the monks and nuns at Wat Thamkrabok monastery in Thailand.  In this instance suitable candidates will be financially sponsored by drug/alcohol support services who will be responsible for the full programme costs. The Mindful Detox - Mindful Recovery programme includes 15 days detoxification treatment at Wat Thamkrabok followed by a 10-week period of rehabilitation and mindful recovery at the New Life Foundation (Cheewit Mai) in Chiang Rai, Thailand.
 

SELECTION:

This will be a joint process by the Sponsor and TARA Detox Organisation. However, the final acceptance will be by TARA Detox.  Candidates must show an understanding of - and be committed to - the Five Precept Harm Reduction model which includes total abstinence:

• The commitment to refrain from taking, or harming life (including our own).
  We are committed to non-harming and will not tolerate threatening, abusive or violent behaviour in all our dealings.
• The commitment to refrain from stealing (taking that which is not given).
  We agree to not take that which does not belong to us and to respect the property of others.
• The commitment to refrain from sexual misconduct.
  We will dress comfortably but modestly.  We will maintain respectful and healthy boundaries at all times.  We will remain faithful in our relationships.  We will not misuse our sexuality.
• The commitment to refrain from telling lies (being mindful in our speech).
  We will be mindful of what we say and how we say it.  We agree to speak that which is true and useful and to refrain from gossip.
• The commitment to refrain from intoxicating liquors & drugs.
  We are aware that substance abuse is the cause of tremendous suffering to ourselves and those around us.

PREPARATION:

This will be a joint process by the Sponsor and TARA Detox Organisation.  TARA Detox involvement will consist of a minimum of one face-to-face introduction day and 8 x 1 hour telephone/contact meetings to include counselling/preparation planning.

OUTWARD TRAVEL TO THAILAND

The candidate will be escorted from the UK directly to Wat Thamkrabok monastery to begin detoxification treatment.  All arrangements (except insurance) by TARA Detox.

DETOX AT THAMKRABOK MONASTERY (THAILAND)

A 15-day minimum detoxification period at Thamkrabok to be overseen by a TARA Detox representative.  After detoxification, the candidate will be escorted to Cheewit Mai - the New Life Foundation - located in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand. All arrangements by TARA Detox.

REHABILITATION AT NEW LIFE FOUNDATION (THAILAND)

The first and last week's of rehabilitation at Cheewit Mai - the New Life Foundation - to be overseen by a TARA Detox representative.

Rehabilitation will include a mindful recovery programme delivered by New Life Foundation counsellors.

RETURN TRAVEL TO UK

The candidate will be escorted directly home to the UK.  All arrangements (except insurance) by TARA Detox.

The cost per individual programme varies and is, in part, dependent upon the candidate’s home departure airport.  As a guide, but subject to change at short notice, the cost for the full 20-week program - which includes 12-weeks in Thailand - is approximately £5,500.00^#

# PLEASE NOTE : There is a £1000.00 deposit required in addition to the program fee to cover the costs of any non-scheduled return to the UK by the candidate. Under normal circumstances, this deposit will be returned to the Sponsor after the candidate has completed the full 12-week course in Thailand and has returned, as scheduled, to the UK.

In the event of a non-scheduled termination of the program due to (but not limited to) ill-health, or the candidate’s unacceptable behaviour or their request to check-out of the program early; the candidate will be escorted to Bangkok International Airport and put on a flight to his/her home airport in the UK.
